We’ve been hoping to see a moose (animal, not dessert) and have been keeping our eyes peeled throughout all our scenic drives and hikes in the mountains, but no moose sightings. But now, we’ve seen an official Canadian moose – more on that in a bit.
Deana’s doing laundry and getting ready for the drive back into the States, so I’ve been put in charge of the blog. So, today:
Light rail into downtown Calgary and for our first stop, we walked around the Glenbow Museum and especially liked the “Mavericks” exhibit of Southern Albertans who waged war, drilled for oil, married and had a dozen or so children, broke horses, explored, shot wildlife, traded whiskey, and did all the things which made the area what it is today. We then walked along Stephen Avenue Promenade which is a closed-to-cars area with galleries, shops, and restaurants. We really loved our Indian buffet lunch at Mango Shiva. After lunch we walked to Fort Calgary for some history lessons and a look at the Mounties Barracks. We then walked and walked, through Inglewood Neighbourhood, into the river park by the Bow, and finally over the river to Calgary Zoo, where, yes, we saw a moose. Also a caribou, a tiger, and a triceratops, amongst other animals.
To get to our light rail stop near our hotel, we had to go back to downtown and since we were there, we decided to see if another restaurant in Calgary could be good, and it was. Now I am helping Deana with her plans for heading to Yellowstone, and I have to pack for my early flight back to San Jose.
